The power of mindset: how Equalminds colleagues make the difference.

Digital transformation and IT projects often revolve around one constant: change. How your organization handles it determines whether you move forward or remain stagnant. At Equalminds, we understand this like no other. That’s why our colleagues deploy not only their expertise, but also their flexibility, drive, and especially their mindset. A conversation with Miranda, who has been one of the driving forces at Equalminds for over a decade, reveals what this means in practice.

Fluidity: Agile as a superpower

What immediately stands out about Miranda’s approach is how she, along with her Equalminds colleagues, is rarely tied to a single, fixed role description. “I usually work as a business analyst, but I can also serve as a functional analyst, product owner, or SCRUM master. Whatever the project needs at that moment, I step in,” she says.

This flexibility is not an exception, but rather the norm within the team. The fact that the work is conducted according to Agile principles plays a key role. Iterative work simply requires a flexible mindset and project-oriented approach. “In low-code projects, we can adapt quickly. The business sees the impact of a change almost immediately. This means that as a team, we also have to adapt. And then you put on that extra hat, simply because it’s necessary.”

Aiming for the higher purpose

This willingness to go beyond the strict scope of one’s job description stems from a shared sense of responsibility. Miranda explains: “We often work as a proxy product owner, which is essentially a business analyst on our side. The core is to unburden the client: you are their link to the team, monitor priorities and budget, and ensure the team focuses on the right things. Ultimately, you grow into a partner in crime.”

It’s that mindset that makes the difference: the project and the result come first. If that means someone has to step outside their comfort zone, then they simply do. “You step into the role that’s needed at that moment. It happens organically. Because you feel it’s necessary.”

Thinking in possibilities

An example from a recent project shows how this role merging works in practice. Miranda describes a situation where the customer wanted to report on sales status every month. They had to choose between monthly reporting or a dynamic, real-time solution. “It seems simple, but technically, they were two completely different paths. Everything starts with thoroughly examining and understanding the business issue. I not only looked at the functional aspects but also helped to frame the technical feasibility and the impact on the team.”

Concretely, she supported the client in making an informed decision, aligning the development team, and simultaneously monitoring the scope and feasibility. “You tell the story, make it visual and understandable. You essentially wear different hats to bridge the gap between the business and the technical aspects. And then the client can decide with peace of mind.” Not a one-woman show, but a team effort

Miranda doesn’t do what she does alone. She’s part of a culture where collaboration is paramount. A good example is her collaboration with (cluster) colleague Els Van Gestel from Contribute: “We often brainstorm about a problem late into the evening. Not because we have to, but because we want to solve it. If something doesn’t go as planned, we share the mentality of: we’ll solve it. And if we don’t know the answer ourselves, we ask a colleague. That’s ingrained in how we work. We’re all focused on the bigger picture.”

Coaching and engaging

Another striking aspect is the informal yet coaching role that many Equalminders adopt. Miranda guides not only clients but also team members. “I like to engage people. Why are we doing this? Where do we want to go? If you explain it well, they’ll contribute their own ideas. That way, you get solutions from the team, not just from the top down.” That’s perhaps the most beautiful thing you can take away from Miranda’s story: in an environment where responsibility doesn’t stop at the job title, where the end result is always central, collaboration is key. And that goes beyond professional engagement. That’s passion. That’s Equalminds.
